WC VII - Day One

The first day of festivities kicked off for the second straight year with Battlestar Galactica. The characters were Kara "Starbuck" Thrace (CJ), Tom Zarek (little CJ), Chief Tyrol (Jen), Apollo (Jeff), Lauren Roslin (Felix), and Helo (Mike).

During round one, the Cylons sabotaged the very first skill check, causing morale to plummet precipitously. Admiral Helo was called on to make several key life or death decisions during the first round. He had to sacrifice a nuke, morale plummeted further, and the Admiral’s Quarters were damaged by a Base Star, but the fleet managed to jump at the start of round 2 to a remote planet.

Near the end of round 2, morale was getting so low that Chief Tyrol had a potty mouth when another Admiral’s Choice crisis card came up.

In round 3, a second jump into an asteroid field meant the fleet started to run low on food. A raptor found a small supply of water which helped to prolong the fleet’s survival a bit longer.

The fleet jumped again in round 4, this time into deep space where a large Cylon fleet found them. Things were looking dire for the humans.

Just after the jump into open space, Apollo opened round 5 by declaring himself a Cylon after he was thrown in the Brig. Helo and Starbuck combined to kill a Base Star before the fleet jumped away. They were almost to Kobol.

Jeff the Cylon caused the Fleet Mobilization Super Crisis on round 6, allowing the Cylons to swarm around Galactica and the civilian ships. A second Base Star soon arrived, compounding the problems for the humans. Starbuck flew like a banshee, blowing raiders and heavy raiders out of the pitch black sky.

Round 7 proved to be the ultimate round when Jeff activated the raiders who quickly killed a pair of civilian ships. The population losses proved to be insurmountable and the humans faded into oblivion. Chief Tyrol managed to skillfully remain hidden amongst the humans as a Cylon for the entire game.

After the first of several delicious lunches, the after was spent playing Napoleon in Europe. The country leaders were France (Scott), Britain (Mike), Prussia (CJ), Russia (little CJ), Austria (Felix), and Spain (Jeff).

The game began in January, 1808, just after Austria had surrendered to France. The French and Spanish were at war with Britain, Prussia and Russia. Austria and the Ottoman Empire were at peace and un-allied.

France began January by shuffling some pieces around, moving from Austria towards Prussia. Russia declared war on the Ottomans and headed south to find their glory. Spain caused an uprising in Gibraltar in an effort to liberate the poor populace from the oppressive British rule.

Events started to roll in February as France wiped out two large Prussian garrisons in in a pair of northern Germanic city-states. Spain finished off their liberation of Gibraltar. Britain learned from the Spanish and caused an uprising in Brittany, landing a small cavalry force on France’s back porch. Austria joined the Russians and headed south to capture territory from the Ottomans.

Napoleon continued to press the Prussians in March, defeating a large Prussian army while forcing a smaller army out of Berlin. Prussia pushed back and recaptured Berlin, but was the victory worth the cost? Britain reinforced their toe hold in Brittany and started to move inland in an attempt to distract the French away from Prussia. The Ottomans stabilized their lines just north of Constantinople against the Russians and Austrians.

Prussia sued for peace with France and Spain in April as Napoleon proved too much to handle. France annexed two territories while Spain took one at the peace table. With forces freed up now in the east, France turned on the British in Brittany and pushed them back to the coast line. Austria looked to take advantage of a now distracted France, declaring war to push the French out of the Austrian homeland. Spain annexed Gibraltar.

After a sumptuous dinner break, everyone decided to capitulate to Napoleon and we moved on to the next game, Circus Imperium which proved to be as chaotic and silly as ever.

The first turn of Circus Imperium lived up to expectations. Little CJ left the line third, rammed Stephen on his first whip and then frenzied. Scott left the line fifth, frenzied on his first whip, and never recovered control of his team. Felix then came along, bounced Scott’s chariot off the wall and trampled his driver, nearly killing him.

Jeff led after one turn and safely made it to the end of turn 1, whipped and frenzied. Mike expertly handled his team through the corner and shot out the other side. Little CJ frenzied into the corner and immediately crashed. Stephen used his driver’s skills to handle the corner and whipped into the lead. CJ tried to follow suit but could only make it to second place. Scott’s driver luckily grabbed a cab before his frenzied chariot bolted into turn 1, scraping along the outside wall into third place.

Scott’s frenzied beast moved perfectly on the third turn, landing just short of turn 2. Jeff frenzied past Scott into the corner, expertly using the wall as a brake, before he crashed on turn 4, throwing his gladiator overboard and dragging him.

Mike whipped out of turn 2 and frenzied as did Stephen. Felix frenzied and crashed in turn 1 cementing his position in last place. Scott led the race as the chariots approached the completion of the first lap.

The top chariots across the line for lap 1 were Scott, CJ and Mike. Jeff’s gladiator grabbed a cab and crossed in fourth. Stephen’s chariot crashed just before the line while little CJ frenzied again on his first whip. Felix’s gladiator grabbed a cab as his driver whipped his beasts into a frenzy.

Scott crashed into turn 3. CJ whipped his way into the lead coming out of turn 3. Mike bounced Scott off the wall, killing Scott’s beasts who had been frenzied since turn 1. Mike then crashed himself, bouncing his driver out of his chariot. Jeff whipped into third place and frenzied while little CJ finally reached turn 2, whipped and frenzied again. Felix frenzied around turn 2 nearly perfectly and crossed the line in sixth place.

Jeff’s frenzied team pulled into first place heading towards turn 4 as little CJ crashed coming out of turn 2. Mike whipped out of turn 4 into the lead bouncing both Jeff and CJ off the wall in a crowd pleasing display of violence, completing lap 2 in first place. CJ quickly followed across the line in second place. Stephen’s beasts died from a frenzy.

On the following turn, Stephen’s gladiator grabbed a cab on Felix’s chariot and driver jumped onto Mike’s. Despite the combat going on behind him, Mike’s driver managed to control his frenzied beasts enough to frenzy around turn 5 into first place as Jeff completed lap 2 in third place but was lagging the field badly.

Scott’s gladiator jumped into CJ’s chariot as it went into turn 5, but unfortunately it crashed into the wall shortly afterwards.

Mike’s frenzied chariot crashed into the last corner but limped across the line to win the race. CJ whipped across the line in second place after dispatching of Scott’s gladiator. Jeff limped across the line in third place, several turns behind the leaders. They were the only three chariots to finish the race of the six that started.
